Fantastic experience: As a wedding florist, I absolutely love working with Melissa Alison Events. Melissa is consistently kind, considerate, and respectful to her vendor partners, and she truly values our creative input as professionals. She remains calm and organized under pressure, even during high-profile weddings with large guest counts and significant budgets — a quality that makes a huge difference on wedding days. I genuinely enjoy working with Mel and her team and am always happy to refer them to clients looking for a wedding planner in Calgary, Canmore, or Banff. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: We hired Melissa Allison Events for month‑of coordination for our multi‑day wedding, and while there were some aspects we appreciated, our overall experience fell short of what we had hoped for. Their standard coordination package didn’t fit in well with some aspects of multi-day weddings. Expectations that work well for a one‑day wedding — such as décor pickup/drop‑off not being included or limiting guest communication to the event itself — didn’t translate well to a multi‑day event. While we would have been happy to pay more, the only option we were given was to upgrade to the full-planning package which doesn’t make sense when we’d already planned the entire wedding. Across the weekend, we found ourselves fielding questions from vendors and guests because our coordinator didn’t consistently establish herself as the primary point of contact. This added stress during moments when we were hoping to be fully present. Additionally, there were several coordination gaps — microphone issues went unaddressed, our photographers were given incorrect information about the event flow, and we ended up managing all communication between a lion dance group, our Chinese banquet venue and ourselves. The following day, chairs were initially arranged behind pillars and had to be corrected by a family member, and a misunderstanding around cleanup wasn’t escalated or resolved, which ultimately led to our damage deposit being withheld. We also noticed a lack of preparation around the non‑Western elements of our ceremony, which resulted in confusion for participants and hesitation from the coordination team at key moments. We recognize that multicultural weddings can introduce unfamiliar elements, and we appreciate that the team was willing to take ours on. However, we were hoping for more proactive engagement, clearer ownership, and stronger support throughout the weekend. Saying all this, MAE had great visual sense, strong organization, and were very easy to communicate with. For a traditional 1-day western wedding we would recommend them without hesitation. If you’re looking for something more complex however, you may want to consider other options.

Fantastic experience: We came to Melissa in January with the hopes of a wedding in October - I know a quicker turnaround then most weddings - and she never once made us feel like it wasn't possible. Melissa took our budget and made everything come to life. She worked seamless with all vendors and shared everything in a timely manner, bringing fresh ideas to the table for design! Oh and did I mention she also had a baby during this time - a true superhero!! Our entire wedding process, day before and day of wouldn't have been as seamless, calm cool and collected without Melissa and her team. I would highly recommend working with Melissa, she takes all of the stress out of planning, works within any range of budget and does it all with a smile & enthusiasm. Thank you to the entire MAE team - you were all amazing. I want to do it all over again!!

Fantastic experience: We had the pleasure of work Melissa for 18 whole months! Finding a wedding planner was an important decision, especially since we are based in NYC, but Melissa took so much time to help us find the right venue for our wedding and mehndi event. She also helped us secure some of the best vendors in the area and made the weekend of so seamless. She is such a calming presence during a really stressful process and always had such a great attitude. Her assistant Kayla was also exceptional and helped keep us informed while ensuring we had a good time during our wedding weekend. Negative experience: Highly Disappointing Experience – Proceed With Caution! As a medical professional accustomed to working in high-pressure environments with high standards of communication and accountability, I approached wedding planning with the same level of organization, communication, and professionalism I expect from any service provider—especially one hired to reduce stress during such an important life event. My husband and I chose this wedding planner based on her many positive reviews and her apparent experience. Unfortunately, our experience with this wedding planner was not only disappointing, but fell drastically below the standard promised or contractually agreed-upon obligations. We were forced to terminate our agreement due to repeated incompetence exemplified by poor follow-through and neglected responsibilities. Despite assurances in our contract which included “sourcing vendors, managing timelines, reviewing contracts, and providing full design development,” we were consistently met with delays, incomplete information, and dismissive rationalizations. Only one vendor was sourced and confirmed with her assistance in over two months—every other vendor (music, florals, henna, photography, rentals, videography) was ultimately researched, contacted, and secured by us, despite that being a core service she was contracted to provide. At one point, she suggested we parse down our vision for florals rather than explore other vendors. Upon further review of the one quote she provided in detail, based off the design board we designed with her, she included items that were not approved and items that were entirely missed making the quote outrageously inaccurate. Her explanation was that the vendor she went with is “generally one of the more affordable yet quality florists in the industry, so once we knew his quote was out of the budget, that's when I reached out to Callia as per your suggestion, as most other Calgary florists that we work regularly with would not be able match his quote.” No further quotes from other florists were provided. Furthermore, she indicated that a quote “super fluid” up until 2 weeks leading up to the wedding as we add and subtract things along the way. Suffice it to say, we were able to find multiple affordable and suitable options ourselves within days. Communication was a constant source of frustration. This wasn’t a matter of “fit”, “communication style,” or “unrealistic expectation.” This was outright neglect of duties and a clear breach of contract. Important deadlines were not met, follow-ups were neglected entirely until we asked for clarification when another check-in was to be scheduled, and vendors she claimed were unresponsive actually replied to us within hours when we contacted them directly. The process became more stressful, caused more confusion, and added hours of extra work that we were paying her to manage —completely negating the intended benefit of hiring a planner. Even foundational tasks like creating a simple wedding website were incomplete or had stagnant progress despite setting a clear cut deadline (crucial for our invitation timeline). By April (months after hiring her and after the deadline), only two photos and a single page had been uploaded. In addition, the first piece of work we received—a digital “Save the Date”—had the wrong date. While I understand that every client relationship is different and that many others appear to have had a good experience with her, I cannot ignore the reality of our own. Our experience was not only disappointing but fundamentally misaligned with what was contractually promised and professionally expected. Fantastic experience: We couldn’t feel more fortunate to have worked with Mel throughout the entirety of our wedding process. She allowed us to actually enjoy our day and the planning process throughout. On top of being phenomenal at her job, she’s also an incredible human constantly advocating for her clients. Half of our sadness about our wedding being done is knowing we can’t talk to her everyday. We’d recommend her to ANYONE considering a wedding in the Calgary / Banff area.

Fantastic experience: As a couple from the states, the idea of planning a wedding in Banff was daunting- luckily for us, that’s where Mel and her team came in. From our first call, we knew her and her team were the right fit. She understood our need and want to have a wedding that didn’t feel like a wedding- but felt like US! From a murder mystery rehearsal dinner, to renting out a coffee shop for our guests, to a dog themed brunch- Mel and her team made sure every detail we wanted were executed to perfection. Mel helped every step of the way, from walking through silly steps of our timeline I didn’t understand, to calming my nerves before walking down the aisle- she is truly not only an amazing planner, but someone we now consider a friend. If you are looking for someone who will value your wants and needs on your special day, who will hear you and go to bat for you when necessary, Mel is the right choice for you!

Fantastic experience: Working with Melissa and her amazing team was the best decision we made for our wedding! From the get go Melissa was so wonderful to work with and made sure all the small details were handled. Because Melissa was welcoming her second little one (congrats to Melissa!!) right around our wedding we had the amazing Kayla and Alex helping us out on our wedding day and they absolutely nailed every detail! Our ceremony and reception spaces were perfect and Kayla and Alex were on top of everything. We cannot thank this amazing team enough for everything they did on our wedding day!!

Fantastic experience: Melissa and her team are absolutely amazing!! I cannot stress enough how they made all my wedding day dreams come true. I feel like I am such a type-A bride and needed to be involved in every part of the planning process, so I asked for the “wedding management package”, and yet Melissa still went above and beyond to help me when I needed to find a photographer last minute or needed help finding childcare for my baby. There were times when I even felt bad reaching out because I knew she was on vacation and would still respond back within a couple of hours to any email. Every vendor said that Melissa and her team were extremely professional and accommodating too! I would also like to point out that they were so proactive and helpful on the wedding day. There was one point during the reception I needed bobby pins and without even mentioning it to them, I had bobby pins in my hands mere minutes later! I could continue to go on and go about how perfect they all are, but I would like to say that I couldn’t have done this without them and I would HIGHLY recommend Melissa and her team to anyone getting married!! Fantastic experience: Working with Melissa Alison Events for our special day was by far the best decision my now husband and I could have made!! Mel and her team were an absolute pleasure to work with, from beginning to end. She immediately matched our vibe, communicated clearly, and was so organized. There was literally not a single moment I felt stressed... and I was planning a wedding in Yoho National Park from South Florida! Melissa truly knows her stuff, and provided the best support and recommendations, guiding me every step of the way. She is not only your wedding planner, though. Her design was... WOW. I simply sent Pinterest ideas of my overall vision and she made it come to life. She truly knocked it out of the park on the day of, I could not believe my eyes when we did the room reveal. Mel will also go to bat for you, if needed as well! (Wedding vendors can be tough sometimes, and she handled it all with ease) And last but not least - she will ensure your day goes off without a hitch, working behind the scenes and allowing you to truly indulge in the events of the day. She is also the best resource for brewery recommendations ;) Overall, just book her. You wont regret it.

Fantastic experience: We absolutely loved working with MAE and couldn’t recommend them more! Melissa worked with us leading up to the event and then our lead coordinator Kyla stepped in and executed flawlessly on the day of with the help of a couple other coordinators. Melissa was very attentive and took very detailed notes of our vision and plans. She never told us what we wanted to hear and always gave us a thoughtful and professional opinion, which I highly valued. She and Kyla were so on top of everything that it made planning a wedding less stressful and I couldn’t be more grateful. Fantastic experience: Melissa and her team coordinated our wedding day-of, and we couldn't be happier with working with her on our wedding day! We interviewed over 10 wedding planners, all with their different flairs, and Melissa was the best culture fit for us in terms of being open-minded to our ideas, not too "girly" or "Instagram-y", and still stayed professional and patient with us as we bounced many ideas back and forth. The biggest help Melissa gave us was connecting us to many trustworthy vendors during our wedding prep. All the recommended vendors were superb: catering (An Affair to Remember), DJ (Revolution Entertainment), and photo/video (Summer Team). On the day of, she coordinated all the arrival and departure times of the vendors so bride / groom / family members could focus on the wedding day.

Fantastic experience: Once you’ve given Mel the vision for your wedding, she and her team handle the details so you can truly be present and enjoy your special day. Not only is she inclusive of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, but she is also sensitive to any tricky dynamics amongst guests. 11/10, highly recommend! We hired Melissa Alison Events as our day-of coordinator and began touching base about 6 to 8 weeks prior to our wedding day. We were amazed at how quickly Mel solved problems we had been grappling with for the entire wedding planning process. More importantly, she solved problems on our wedding day that we could never have anticipated. For example, when the only path from where we were getting ready to the ceremony ended up flooded and muddy, Mel arranged for vehicles to transport the wedding party so our clothes, shoes, and makeup didn’t get ruined. Mel was truly like our guardian angel in the lead up to our wedding, and we strongly recommend hiring her as your wedding planner. We’re so grateful we got to work with her!

Fantastic experience: I'm beyond grateful for Melissa & her team for their expertise during our wedding in Banff. With no rehearsal or walk through, Melissa took our ideas through a couple of zoom calls and emails and brought them to life. The ceremony setup was perfect, and then the reception (with a quick turnaround time and at a different location) was more than we could have imagined. Fantastic experience: Melissa was our day of coordinator, and we couldn’t have asked for a better person to make sure our day went smoothly. She was always prompt with emails and replies, and always kind and friendly when we spoke. She also helped us tie any and all loose ends, and gave great suggestions for how our ceremony should run (we did a few secular rituals). I can’t recommend her and her team enough!

Fantastic experience: Working with Mel was an absolute dream - being from the states, we knew we needed a wedding planner with local connections to ensure a beautiful wedding in Banff. After interviewing a few, we best connected with Mel, who is detail oriented yet relaxed (which helped with our stress!), kind, knowledgeable, and so so good at planning and adding little ideas to ensure our day went perfectly. Mel's communication was INCREDIBLE, often responding within 24 hours and she was always available for a quick zoom if needed. We felt so relieved when she took the reigns a month before the wedding (we chose the month of package, but felt so supported for the entire year of planning). It has been a week since our wedding and every single guest has commented on how lovely the day was. I have no hesitations recommending Mel for any event planning and hope you consider her for your own wedding!

Fantastic experience: We hired Melissa to assist us with the day-of planning for our wedding, and within a couple of days she had a draft schedule and was helping us deal with all our vendors' questions (they have a lot of questions). We went from feeling highly stressed to finally being able to relax practically overnight. Melissa was always attentive and quick to answer questions, be they by phone, email or text message. She is a wealth of knowledge and advice on how to make an event of this scale run smoothly. Melissa was incredibly kind and organized, and kept our wedding running on track. She helped our MCs and the rest of the wedding party understand what their duties would be, answering questions that my partner and I would have only been guessing at. We had a brief medical situation (everyone is well) during our wedding, and Melissa gave us great advice on how to handle it and get the party back on track. I recommend Melissa without reservation 100 percent.

Fantastic experience: We cannot recommend Melissa and her team enough. From day one her help and organisation was absolutely flawless. She helped us set up hotel room bookings, kept in constant contact and gave us the most detailed, minute by minute breakdown of how our wedding day would go that I have ever seen. The relief of knowing that she had taken the reins and would be calling all our vendors to tell them where to go and what to do was immense. After all our work finding and booking vendors we could just focus on the day itself and being with our family. On the day of our wedding she set up all of our decorations, picked up (and added decorations to) our wedding cake and met all the vendors to make sure it was all ready to go while we got ready at the hotel. Fantastic experience: Absolutely incredible!! Hiring Melissa was probably the best decision we could have made in planning/executing our wedding. We met with several other planners and she blew them all out of the water. She was always available to assist during the planning process, incredibly organized, and suggested many great vendors. She perfectly accommodated my Type A need to make decisions while also being totally involved and supportive every step of the way. I loved her monthly checklists that kept us on track without being overwhelming and her Master Production Schedule was a work of art. She made us feel calm and confident that everything would work out the way we wanted it to and she truly understood our wedding vision and priorities. On the day, she handled everything with ease and allowed us to simply enjoy every moment and not worry about any logistics or problem solving. She fixed a couple of issues as they went and I did not even know they had happened until afterwards. She is also an incredible person and was very fun to work with and be around. We truly cannot recommend her enough. My husband gave her a shoutout in his wedding toast and we actually miss working with her. Absolute legend.
